The Children's Wish Foundation is a federally chartered, non-profit organization dedicated to fulfilling a favorite wish for children between
the ages of three and eighteen who are diagnosed to have high risk, life-threatening illnesses. The Prince Edward Island Chapter relies
solely on the generosity of Islanders, who through donations and fundraisers, enable our Chapter to continue its work of granting the wishes
of Island children. As public awareness increases, so do the number of children requesting our assistance. That is why it is so important
for our Chapter to have a constant source of funds on hand. The average cost of granting a wish on Prince Edward Island is $10,000.
Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of that particular child. A wish truly belongs to the child.
It may be the one event in their lives through which they regain some sense of control as the child is given the power to determine the
wish. Although it cannot change the outcome, contemplating all the possibilities is a wonderful distraction from the harsh realities of
illness. A family becomes involved in discussing and planning and most importantly the focus is shifted to the anticipation of a happy
experience.
Our vision is that every child enjoys the best quality of life possible, including the experience of laughter, shared joy and treasured
memories with the most important people in their lives. If you would like to volunteer and help us continue to grant the wishes of Island
children, please call the Foundation office at 1-800-267-9474 or 566-5526 or email pei@childrenswish.ca.
